David Bruton adjusts to the NFL, how not to write a story, and Bennett Jackson nears a decision (LOTD 6/7)

Not much coming from the tube of internets today, but there's a couple of ND related stories and a couple of college football interest stories. Let's get to it.

David Bruton is adjusting to life as an NFL rookie with the Denver Broncos. Bruton, who was the defensive leader on last year's team, has been getting a good look on special teams with the Broncos, where he thrived as a gunner in his four years at Notre Dame.
“That’s probably my favorite position on special teams,” he said. “Just being a big guy and people not thinking you can run that fast, you basically get a free shot at the returner. That’s the fun part, just knowing that you have a chance to knock the returner out or cause a big turnover, a big play in the game.”
Bruton has relied on veterans Brian Dawkins and former ND lineman Ryan Harris for help in adjusting at the next level. Dawkins, formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, is the perfect player for Bruton to learn from. An experienced NFL veteran, Dawkins has a similar game, working the sidelines and looking for the big hit.

Bruton still seems to be a bit wide-eyed at the NFL level, which is expected from someone in his position, but he seems to be enjoying the whole thing. He says: “It’s been a fun experience, getting a chance to know all of the guys and learn how to play professional football, walk around like a professional.” Best of luck to David, I hope he can make the squad and have an impact for the Broncos this season.

There's a really terrible story on BleacherReport regarding the recruiting of Nick Montana. Matt King of BR tries to figure out where Montana will end up based on process of elimination, and not based on any information from Montana whatsoever. King ends up believing that Montana will go to Ohio State... despite the fact that they have a pretty good quarterback there already. King discounts Washington due to a poor record last year (despite the fact that they have significantly upgraded their coaching situation), Stanford because he needs to move away from home (despite the fact that Harbaugh has been recruiting Montana heavily), and Notre Dame because Montana wants to play outside of the shadow of his father (despite the fact that Nick has never said he has such concerns).

King settles on a final three of LSU, Georgia, and Ohio State. Funny thing is that every inclination has Montana staying on the West Coast or going to Notre Dame. We'll see how this all plays out, but I put very little credence in the King article. It really just read as if he was shooting darts and landed on Ohio State. Grade A journalism. That's why blogs get a bad name.

Sticking with recruiting, New Jersey wide receiver Bennett Jackson is nearing a decision. Jackson told scout that he will make a decision today (Sunday), and that he has selected a school that he "has liked for a while." Jackson, who measures in at 6'1" 175 pound, has been offerred by the Irish, as well as by Pitt, Rutgers, Michigan State, Iowa, Maryland, and Northwestern. He visited the Irish a couple of weeks ago and reports have been positive since that visit. If I had to make a prediction I would say that he goes with the Irish, but this is recruiting and nobody really knows until the decision has been announced (Jackson hasn't even told the coaches recruiting him who he has selected). Nevertheless, I like this quote: "I think I am committing for good. I don’t plan on decommitting to somewhere else." Jackson is a 4-star recruit on Scout, ranking at #25 among receivers nationally, and a 3-star recruit on Rivals, ranking at #57 nationally.

Moving on, the Star-Tribune reports that Michigan is considering in-conference Minnesota for a non-conference game in 2010. scUM is obviously looking to add a win to their schedule, Minnesota is garbage, but why not look to the MAC or D-1AA for a win? Well, as long as you go with someone other than Appy-State. Minnesota is apparently not interested, already having a road matchup with USC and not looking to play another "big-time" program on the road. Perhaps Michigan should consider Boob Davie's Slippery Rock program.

Finally, the Forcier family has launched a website filled with superlatives and hyperbole for a QB family that has accomplished so little. The Forcier boys share their favorite philospophical and inspirational quotes for those needing motivation, along with pictures from their vacation scrapbook (?). Tate Forcier, the quarterback at RichRod's Michigan program, makes sure to thank Marv Marinovich, former qb coach and father to Todd Marijuanavich... possibly the greatest NFL bust ever. The whole site is really a trip in ego and overstated self-worth, but it's good for a laugh.

Enough for today. Monday's bring about a plethora of news, so I'll have some more stuff for you tomorrow.

That QBForce website has been up and running for years now. Still a good laugh, though.
